As a new base for communicating the distinctive value of “Japan Denim” both domestically and internationally, MOMOTARO JEANS FUKUOKA will open on Friday, May 15, 2026, in the Daimyo district of Fukuoka.
Located on Kokutai-doro Avenue in Daimyo, Fukuoka, MOMOTARO JEANS FUKUOKA is once again directed by AS (the architectural unit of Jun Aoki and Masatoshi Shinagawa), following their work on MOMOTARO JEANS KYOTO. AS is known for carefully curating the relationship between architecture and its urban surroundings — restraining architectural assertion while elevating the quality of experience. For this project, they have created a space that gently dissolves the boundary between interior and exterior, opening the store to the street and the city.

“At first glance, the new MOMOTARO JEANS FUKUOKA, facing Kokutai-doro Avenue in Daimyo, Fukuoka, presents a quiet, understated exterior. Yet upon stepping through its small entrance, visitors are greeted by a tsuboniwa courtyard planted with cycads — evoking the Setouchi landscapes that are the brand’s roots. Hidden behind that quiet façade, this garden serves as a buffer between the bustle of the street and the tranquil interior, channeling light and breeze into the space.
Just as the quality of a garment’s lining — the fabric that touches the skin — enriches the comfort of wearing it, so does this courtyard, as the ‘lining’ that directly touches the interior space, fill the store with greenery and natural light, enhancing the comfort of visitors and enriching the seamless experience from arrival to fitting. When the weather permits, the doors facing the garden can be opened wide. Before it is a shop, it is a garden, quietly nestled in the heart of the city.”

AS is an architectural design unit led by Jun Aoki and Masatoshi Shinagawa. Originally founded in 1991 as Jun Aoki & Associates, the firm was reorganized in 2020 when Shinagawa joined as partner. Notable works include the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art and other public buildings, as well as a series of luxury brand façades such as LOUIS VUITTON GINZA NAMIKI and TIFFANY GINZA.
